Technical Assistance for China

Grameen Trust has deputed Mr. Shahjahan Ali, Deputy General Manager of Grameen Bank, to work in China for one year as the Director of Grameen Bank Replication Program in that country. During his one year stay, he will visit the existing and potential partner organizations of Grameen Trust in China, and provide on-site training and technical assistance to these organizations operating in different provinces of the country.

The organizations that will be assisted by Mr. Ali are FPCYoungyang and FPC Loucun in Hebei; MRL in Xinghzhi County in Jiangxi Province; CZWSDA in Inner Mongolia; ARDY and ARDPAS in Szechuan Province; XRDA, ZYRDA and CFPA in Guizhou Province and ARDTC in Gansu Province. Mr. Ali arrived in China in early September and is currently working at the field sites of GT’s partners in Guizhou province.
Shahjahan Ali’s work in China is sponsored under the grant provided by the Citigroup Foundation to Grameen Trust and Grameen Foundation USA to support microcredit programs in China.

GT and SARS Collaborate to Create A Model Branch in West Bengal |

Grameen Trust has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with its partner project South Asia Research Society (SARS) to jointly work for the rehabilitation of the Hasnabad branch of SARS, and its development into a model branch. SARS has been implementing its microcredit program for the poor in West Bengal for more than 10 years, and has received to date US$ 244,000 in seed and scaling up support from Grameen Trust.
Under the MOU, the plan is to send a resource person from Grameen for a period of 12 months to rehabilitate the credit program of Hasnabad, and undertake on site training and technical assistance and introduction of innovations to make it a strong model branch. During his deputation, the resource person will work as Director of the Hasnabad branch.
The resource person is expected to take up his position very soon. |

Training on Grameen Bank II |

Grameen Trust and Grameen Bank will offer a training program on Grameen Bank II, known as the Grameen Generalized System, in Bangladesh. The training program will cover the innovations introduced by Grameen Bank in the recent past with rewarding results.

Grameen
Basics Training in China |

Grameen
Trust, Bangladesh and FPC, China, jointly
organized a Training program on Grameen Generalised System
(GGS) at Yixian, China from May 16-21, 2004. The training was attended
by 28 participants from 11 organizations in China. Professor H.
I. Latifee and M. Alomgir Hossain from Grameen Trust and Mr. Li
Yiqing from FPC, conducted the program as resource persons. Four
participants from four non-GT partner organizations also attended
the training program after which, they submitted project proposals
and action plans to start new Grameen Bank replication projects.
The training
program was designed to provide Grameen Bank replicators in China,
with an in depth knowledge of the essentials of the Grameen Generalized
System. The objective for such a training session was to familiarize
the partner projects with tools and techniques of GGS, including
loan and savings products that would help them to implement Grameen
approach to eradicate poverty, while still maintaining their loan
portfolio quality and improving institutional efficiency. Various
topics including reporting and accounting, provision and write off
policy, impact assessment and organizational culture were discussed.
Special emphasis was placed on financial and operational aspects
of Grameen Bank.
The training
was conducted in Chinese and all training curriculum and papers
were translated into Chinese while a Chinese interpreter was provided
to simultaneously translate class lectures in the training session.
