In August 1997, the Citicorp Foundation in the U.S.A. made its first grant to any member of the Grameen family of organizations. Its $50,000 grant will support four different activities. First, it will be used to give scholarships to 10 participants of International Dialogue Programs from any of the 15 countries that Grameen Trust and Citicorp agreed on. These are the Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil, Nicaragua and El Salvador. Second, the grant will support Grameen Trust’s work to develop, publish and translate four training manuals on replicating the Grameen methodology. Third, the grant will support the publication of the next 8 issues of Grameen Dialogue, Grameen Trust’s quarterly publication, starting with Dialogue # 33 and concluding with Dialogue #40. Fourth, the grant will support the establishment of Grameen Foundation USA in Washington, D.C. GF-USA, established in April 1997 is working to advance the work of Grameen in the Americas. Citicorp Foundation was also a major supporter of the Microcredit Summit and is providing funding to the Microcredit Summit Fulfillment Campaign.
