Replications in Brazil and Mexico

Grameen Trust has recently approved two replication projects in Latin America.

Microbank, Brazil will undertake replication of the Grameen approach to credit delivery in a slum area of Rio de Janeiro. The slum complex, as it is called, consists of three communities with a population of 32,000 people. The project will provide small loans to poor women in the slums, many of them street vendors and beggars. The project hopes to reach 800 poor families during the two year project period.

Grameen Trust Chiapas will replicate Grameen in two towns located in the southern state of Chiapas in Mexico. GT-Chiapas will work with the very poor indigenous women who currently borrow from money lenders at usurious rates for production of crafts, pottery and textiles. GT-Chiapas will provide small loans to 3000 women during the three year project period.
