Yeheun
Sahrahng Nahum Committee was
established in March 2000, to implement a Grameen Bank Replication
Program. In June of last year, Grameen Trust signed an agreement
with YSNC for providing $50,000 as seed capital and so far
$20,000 has already been disbursed by way of first installment.
Korea
was one of the countries worst affected by the Asian economic
crisis of 1998. The establishment of the Yeheun Sahrang
Nahum Committee has been, to some extent, a step towards
mitigating the negative influence of this crisis. Joyful
Union, an organization under the YSNC, that manages microcredit
projects following the Grameen Bank Replication Program, is
dedicated to educating people to achieve economic independence.
Grameen Trust of Bangladesh and CITIBANK Korea are collaborating
with Joyful Union. YSNC's goals include providing equal
opportunities with regard to education and working with low
income groups to make them self-sufficient.
As
of January 2001, YSNC has disbursed a total of 12,023,000
Won, of which 2,180,043 Won has already been repaid. The repayment
rate is 100%. Loans are usually used for preparation and sale
of food products, farming, poultry, and so on. At present,
Grameen Trust has arranged training programs for the staff
of YSNC, to help them with successful implementation of the
microcredit program. Three members of YSNC have completed
this training, which includes looking into GB's projects,
how loans are given out and how to best utilize them, following
the Grameen methodology. With this training, YSNC is hoping
that necessary skills required for implementation of the project
would be attained.
