45th
International Dialogue
|
 |
| |
|
|
| |
|
The
45th International Dialogue, jointly organized
by Grameen Trust and Grameen Bank, was held in Dhaka
between March 14-24, 2003. There were participants from
five different countries: Australia, Bangladesh, India,
Nepal and the U. S. A.
After
a brief introduction to "Grameen Bank", the
participants spent most of their time observing Grameen
Bank operation in the field. They stayed in different
branches where they observed first hand the essential
features of Grameencredit such as centre meetings, loan
supervision, group formation, accounting and management
information systems. Participants were encouraged to
conduct their own inquires and find out the answers.
Participants returned to the head office, where they
engaged in two days of intensive discussion regarding
their field experience. The participants also visited
an urban replication of Grameen, thus observing the
transferability of micro-finance across different social
and geographical contexts.
As
the final step in the dialogue process, participants
prepared action plans, outlining what would be their
follow up activities after their return to their own
countries. These included concrete plans for setting
up microcredit pilot programs, restructuring existing
microfinance as well as more general action plans.

Grameen
Trust Visits Funded Projects in Indonesia |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
Grameen
Trust sent a technical mission to GT-funded projects in Indonesia
in February. The purpose of the visit was to carry out audits,
provide technical assistance and evaluate performance of Grameen
Trust partner organizations. There are currently more then
fifteen Grameen replication projects in Indonesia of which
as many as eight are funded by Grameen Trust. The GT supported
projects are Mitra Karya East Java (MKEJ), Bangun Karya Central
Java (BKCJP), Paluma Foundation, Yayasan Dharma Bhakti Parasahabat
(YDBP), Yayasan Mitra Usaha (UMU), Yayasan Pokmas Mandiri
(YPM),Yayasan Ridho Mukti Farm (YRMF) and Yayasan Siti Khadijah
(YSK). GT's activities in Indonesia are supported by Citigroup
Foundation.
Of
these eight projects, all except two are performing well.
Up to January 2003, these 8 organizations had disbursed US$
3,370,321, and were reaching 47,249 poor families throughout
Indonesia. Outstanding loans amounted to US$ 1,356,891 and
rate of repayment of these organizations average 98%. The
two organizations lagging behind due to technical difficulties
are BKCJP and Paluma Foundation.
YDBP
is now the largest Grameen Replication program in Indonesia.
It began its microcredit program in April 1999 and currently
reaches 23,492 members through 14 Branches in rural Java.
Up to January, 2003, YDBP has disbursed US$ 2,049,739 and
reported loans outstanding of US$ 772,284, with nearly 100%
rate of repayment. Recently, YDBP has transformed into a BPR,
a rural bank in Indonesia, which will allow it to mobilize
deposits. A GT resource person audited YDBP in February 2003
with emphasis on all financial aspects including maintenance
of credit discipline, record keeping, financial viability
and transparency. Monitoring visits also took place to YRMF,
YMU, YSK and Paluma Foundation.
