Hainan Rural Credit Union (HRCU) and Grameen Trust began discussions in the summer of 2007 regarding implementing a microfinance program following the Grameen Bank Approach (GBA) in Hainan Province of China. The plan to implement the program was formally announced in December 2007.

Calling the Jackson Heights office "Jobra of America," after the village where Grameen started in Bangladesh, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus formally inaugurated Grameen America, Inc. (GA) at a Grand Opening Ceremony on April 25, 2008.

GT Conducts Fact Finding Mission in Oaxaca
Following up on earlier meetings and discussions, Grameen Trust undertook a Fact Finding Mission in Mexico from March 4 to 9, 2008, at the invitation of Mr. Marco Antonio Slim Domit, to set up a Grameen program in the country.
PARAGUAY
Grameencredit Welcomed
Grameen Trust undertook a Fact Finding Mission in Paraguay from June 15 to 21, 2008, at the invitation of the Jerovia Ne'Eme Foundation, to set up a Grameen program there. The mission visited poverty pockets in Asunción and San Pedro.
INDONESIA
GT-IDB Conducts Feasibility Study
Grameen Trust conducted a Feasibility Study in Indonesia from May 6 to 18, 2008, to set up a Grameen microcredit program in the country. The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) facilitated the mission with support from Bank Muamalat.

Banrural Partners with Grameen
Asociacion Civil Guatemalteca Grameen Credit (ACGGC) is a Grameen Trust Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) project that was set up in December 2005 to provide microcredit for poverty alleviation in Guatemala with financial assistance from Whole Planet Foundation.
KOSOVO
Success of Grameen Continues
On February 17, 2008, the Government of Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia. The Kosovo Grameen Missione Arcobaleno Microcredit Fund (KGMAMF) was set up in 2000 in the war torn country to serve the poor women with microcredit for income generating activities.
EGYPT
Microcredit Outreach in Egypt Remains Low
The Commercial International Bank (CIB), the largest private sector bank in Egypt, invited Grameen Trust to conduct a Fact Finding Mission in the country from June 2 to 9, 2008, to set up a Grameen program there.
INDIA
Raises Repayment Rate at SARS
South Asia Research Society (SARS), India, has been operating its microfinance program through 13 branches since 1993. However, the microcredit program did not achieve results as expected. At the invitation of SARS, Grameen Trust developed a special rehabilitation program.

ACRG Adds 3,000 New Members

Grameen Trust undertook a Fact Finding Mission in Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, from March 1 to 4, 2008 at the invitation of Mouvement Cooperatif et du Developpement Rural (MOCODER).
JAMAICA
Poorest Demand Affordable Microcredit
Grameen Trust undertook a Fact Finding Mission in Jamaica from February 26 to 29, 2008, to set up a Grameen program in the country at the invitation of famous music mogul Mr. Chris Blackwell and his Island Outpost and Island Jamaica group.

First Lady Shows Support to Grameen
At the invitation of the AlvarAlice Foundation, Grameen Trust undertook a Fact Finding Mission in Colombia from March 9 to 14, 2008, to set up a Grameen program in the country. The mission visited Bogota and poverty pockets in Cali.
