Micro-Enterprise Lending

Financing small projects and micro-enterprises in Bangladesh is another primary activity of Grameen Fund. The scheme started its operation in late 1997 and up to August 2007 cumulative loan has been disbursed to 1817 projects amounting Bangladeshi Taka (BDT) 181.15 million. Some 134 micro-enterprises in rural areas have received a total of BDT 15.18 million as loan from GF during January – August 2007 under this scheme. Total loan outstanding to micro-enterprises as at Aug 31, 2006 stood at BDT 41.18 million. Financed subsectors include poultry, dairy & fishery, engineering workshops, agriculture, auto engineering, services, handicrafts etc.

Terms & conditions:
 
    Loan amount: BDT 50,000 ~ 500,000
    Term: 1 ~ 3 years
    Grace period according to need
    Monthly repayment schedule
    Interest rate: 20% (declining balance)
 
Security:
 
    Legal agreements
    Advance bank cheque
    Equitable mortgage
    Personal guarantee (by one local individual)
